Hastings Mutual has an opening within our Actuarial Services team for an Actuarial Analyst II. The individual in this role will support the Actuarial Services department to continuously refine HMIC pricing. In addition, they will proactively support product pricing and innovation through statistical research and actuarial analysis of internal and external data, as well as assist in the analysis and technical review of new product pricing to build and/or maintain a competitive edge for Hastings Mutual's products in the marketplace.
Responsible for coordinating and managing projects in support of pricing utilizing accepted actuarial standards, methodologies, and knowledge gained through the pursuit of a professional designation in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Performs beginning to moderate actuarial analyses used in determination of the indicated rate level need assigned lines of business.
Works closely with the Director of Actuarial Services to develop appropriate pricing strategies to support business goals.
With the guidance of the Director of Actuarial Services or other team members, determines appropriate analyses to be conducted for projects to make recommendations to achieve corporate goals.
Prepares and analyzes actuarial data on a monthly and quarterly basis, then communicates key observations and trends based on the analysis to the Director of Actuarial Services.
Makes progress toward attaining a designation of Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA).
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related fields.
Pursuing Casual Actuarial Society designation with at least 2 actuarial exams completed.
A minimum of one year professional actuarial experience is required.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.
Basic knowledge of statistical programming using R, S+, SAS, or other statistical modeling software is preferred but not required.
Basic Knowledge of data access using SQL is preferred but not required.
Demonstrated effective and diplomatic verbal and written English communication skills.
Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete work and/or projects effectively.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
