For SM and MM accounts - Accepts, retains and prices low exposure new, renewal and endorsement commercial business policies per granted authority. Provides other underwriting technical support as directed. Triages business & handles renewals. Pre-screens, processes and prepares information for underwriting. Performs other underwriting technical support as required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Supervisor or Manager; no direct reports
CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gathers information from multiple sources according to company guidelines, in order to support underwriting analysis. May require gathering verbal information or data through reports or other electronic means.
Reviews individual risks for acceptability and handles those within authority based on company underwriting guidelines and standards. May perform analysis for others or in support of higher level underwriters.
Completes assigned underwriting transactions and tasks within established time and service standards.
Determines necessary steps to process work. Decides to accept, reject or modify based on level of authority. Applies pricing guidelines to modeled and un-modeled lines of business in accordance with corporate and field standards.
Plans completion of assignments to meet agreed upon timelines and service level agreements.
Consults with agents and internal partners. Recommends opportunities for business development and service capabilities.
Communicates with agents and other internal and external business partners by requesting or providing requested information.
May participate in the management of agency performance as part of the underwriting team.
Responds to requests from agents and underwriting staff with resolution within established time and service standards in order to facilitate and expedite service needs. Routes calls and higher level issues to appropriate individuals.
Participates in training classes, department and company meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
License/Certification/Designation:Progress toward INS, AU or similar designations preferred.
Experience: Typically two years of commercial lines experience, rating or policy processing experience preferred.
Knowledge: Basic business policies, practices and procedures. General understanding of basic analytical and financial techniques preferred. Knowledge of underwriting and pricing risks. Knowledge of company underwriting standards and philosophy.
Skills/Competencies: Verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts. Ability to recognize problem situations, identify underlying issues, devise alternative solutions, select most appropriate action and follow through to implementation. Ability to prioritize own work/time. Ability to use PC and learn/use applicable systems. Ability to understand, perform and become proficient with automated and manual transactions.
