Overview

Accredited actuary with significant knowledge of insurance and actuarial concepts. Assumes responsibility for completing complex actuarial functions such as ratemaking and reserving with minimal oversight.  Able to lead ad hoc analyses, projects and teams from start to finish.  Able to communicate results and findings of all work.  Demonstrates curiosity and ability to identify new opportunities and areas for improvement/value add.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Priorities

Major Areas of accountability

• Lead quarterly reserving, individual account pricing, and ratemaking processes. Present findings and recommendations to Chief Actuary and other Executives/Board members
• Lead complex ad hoc analyses from start to finish including extraction of data from company databases using SQL or R, analysis, and presentation of findings and recommendations
• Liaise with internal and external partners on reserving and other projects
• Lead or work on cross-functional project teams
• Research, recommend and implement techniques, programs, and/or computer software to develop solutions to enhance actuarial functions and/or improve the quality and efficiency of actuarial and data analysis
• Lead financial forecasting analysis
• Demonstrates thorough understanding of LWCC data, business operations and departmental functions and nuances
• Demonstrates strong relationship skills and ability to communicate effectively with actuarial coworkers and other departments
• Contributes through means other than standard actuarial functions
• Commitment to achieving FCAS
• Mentor less experienced actuarial and other staff

Education and experience

• Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or other related field.
• 6 years relevant experience including reserving and ratemaking. Experience in workers’ compensation and ACAS designation. Significant work experience in addition to near completion of ACAS designation will be considered.
