This is a 1 year contract, filling in for an upcoming maternity leave. Although the position is temporary, the successful candidate will be extremely well placed for any upcoming leadership vacancies that may arise over the course of the year and beyond.
In keeping with the company's vision and goals of customer experience and profitable growth, the mandate of the ratemaking team is to maintain and evolve personal auto pricing for all auto products in the provinces of Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and the Northern Territories, while ensuring on-going regulatory compliance. The team includes 10 team members including a Senior Manager, and it will be the leader's responsibility to guide them to achieve the vision set for the department.
With an ability to develop talent and drive results, you are able to effectively manage people and performance, produce reports, manage government relationships, present proposals to senior management, and ensure member/client satisfaction.
Main responsibilities
- Support the immediate supervisor by helping with work organization, operational planning and special initiatives
- Develop, implement and track the unit's action plan, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic orientations and other administrative units, in a performance management context
- Establish management and communication practices that support change management, talent attraction and retention, skills development, employee engagement, and diversity in keeping with Desjardins values
- Define and ensure the implementation of activities related to the unit's services and ensure entrusted projects are carried through so as to maximize targeted business results and ensure member and client satisfaction
- Support the administrative unit's action plan by successfully managing individual and team performance
- Continuously improve the management of processes under your responsibility

Additional responsibilities
- Establish and provide ratemaking assumptions during the annual budget
- Monitor performance (Ratemaking levers: Loss Ratio, Closing Ratio, Retention) at sufficient granular level in collaboration with Portfolio Governance team
- Take necessary and timely rating actions for all personal auto products and distribution networks in Ontario allowing competitiveness with other insurers while ensuring profitable growth. Teams are responsible for end-to-end value chain: data preparation, modelling, impact analysis, commercial choices and implementation in rating systems when applicable
- Overall Rate Level Analysis on regular basis for all auto products
- Maintain and evolve segmentation: cost of losses and behavioral models
- Manage and evolve the pricing strategy (e.g. price optimization, discount for new business, cap, business choices) in collaboration with the Modeling and Research Competence Center and the Modeling and Best Practices Competence Center
- Take various client-focused initiatives (eg. Regular handling of client files; evolution of pricing approaches in the best interest of members / clients)
- Develop and maintain the RSP disposal strategy
- Liaise with decision-making, regulatory bodies and industry reps that set industry standards and influence stakeholders with respect to insurance product and services
- Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory guidelines and mandates for each jurisdiction
- Provide personal auto pricing expertise for various initiatives in collaboration with other departments (e.g. MRCC; Underwriting; NeXT Program; ABS; DAN Agency).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- A minimum of 10 years of a relevant experience, including 5 years in Personal Lines Pricing
- Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
- Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Fellow of Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA)
